[POPSTONE ALERT] Come And Get It by Rachel Stevens.

PopStone alert! Come And Get It by Rachel Stevens.

Welcome everybody to our VERY first POPSTONE!

What is a popstone? Here at popstonesheroes we believe that out there there have been too many pop gems that for particular reasons went completely forgotten or didn't have the spotlight they deserved. Well, this is the place where all these gems will have their place! Pretty exciting, uh? Let's go!

FormerS-Club singer Rachel Stevens has always been a cool personality into the popmusic world during the (unluckily) few years she’s been active. Her secondalbum, Come And Get It, is, in myopinion, one of the masterpieces of pop music during the 00’s, nonetheless itis produced by some of my favourite personalities like Richard X, Xenomania andJewels & Stone.

The albumopens with one of the tracks by her I love the most, So Good. This Hannah Robinson co-produced danceable electronic pieceof pop is always able to make me not think about problems and to raise my mood,to be more optimistic. And I am quite a depressive guy, so this means thatthat’s strong song.

Another track I really love in the album is Secret Garden. I love the spoken beginning, its magical and almost fiabesque mood. Soft pop song, perfect in its semplicity. That's all.

The Xenomania produced track, anciently produced for the Brian Higgins protegeé Alexis Strum and co-written with her, cannot be ignored in this LP: Nothing Good About This Goodbye. It is some kind of synthesized ballad, with a melancholic mood but without being whining. I think this is one of the prototypes modern pop music should sound like.

Another amazing song on this record is surely the 2004 Sport Relief single, the Richard X produced banger Some Girls. This song is catchy, pure electropop. I love the way the lyrics often pause, leaving a little space to enjoy the musical background created by Richard X. Nothing to add, I guess.

Another noteworthy track is Funny How. Xenomania come back in the production of this track. It's a nice song, smooth rhythm, and I love the romantic lyrics. Short verses, really effective.

The other song I want to highlight is the ending track, Dumb Dumb. Love the similar-dripping sound of the drums. The lyrics are about a girl acting dumb, but deeply looking for true love. There is a better phrase then "her teardrops will explode / into the night that glitters" to explain this feeling from a person who sacrified everything just to look amazing? Mmm...I don't think so!

Conclusion: this LP is something a pop lover should listen at least once in a lifetime in my opinion, is a fresh, sparkling record, not pretentious, filled with cool beats and lovely electropop sounds. Unluckily, this kind of pop is slowly dying in pop industry...
